What to Wear

The age old question when preparing for a photography session – WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR??

To help ease your mind and ensure your photos look their best – here are some friendly suggestions, if you need them. These are by no means meant to drive your decision, simply to influence.

Clothing choices should enhance rather than distract from the overall style and look of the shoot. I highly suggest clothing for each family member that has the same tone, not necessarily color. Bold fun colors and accessories are great! Textures and layers really add dimension to a photograph as well. Be wary of patterns like plaids or busy shirts with logos or words on them.  Add pops of color or toss in a bright or bold piece of jewlery. Remember, we are trying to capture you and your family at this time in your lives – show me (and the camera) who YOU are!

Little boys look so handsome in jeans or shorts, a cute solid tee or polo and bare feet. I just adore when they look like a “miniature daddy”. The girlies, on the other hand, look adorable in little sundresses or rompers, coordinating headbands or clips and again, no shoes. If shoes are preferred, please make sure they are in good shape, not scuffed and fit appropriately. Watching tiny ones clomp around in shoes that are too big (although cute) is uncomfortable for everyone.

Hats, scarves, funky belts, tutus with leggings and chunky jewelry are all fun accessories to consider. If children are being photographed together, clothes that are similar in style or share similar patterns or colors give a more coordinated look.

For my Newbies - nothing beats NUDIE (also known as ‘naked’)! Don’t panic. I know your immediate fear of ‘Nudie’ is that he/she will ‘tinkle’ (or worse) all over … My response?  It’s O.K.! Everything can be washed or cleaned. The raw sweetness of the photos are worth it! Of course, we’ll keep a diaper close by and if you are more comfortable having them dressed, by all means I will accommodate.

Again, these are simply a guide to help make your clothing choice less stressful. Hope it has done it’s job!
